Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin. Studies have shown that the average treatment results last six months or even longer. The NASHA technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injection material is nearly gone. The duration of effect of an individual treatment depends on many factors including an individual’s skin type, lifestyle and age. After the initial treatment, follow up sessions are generally recommended every 6 to 12 months. A lip treatment usually lasts about 6 months. Evidence shows that a touch up session before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.
Restylane is injected into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultra fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and the results are practically instantaneous. To optimize comfort during the procedure, your physician may apply a topical numbing gel or use local anesthesia.
Side effects from Restylane injection can include some redness, swelling and bruising. Also if a patient has a history of cold sores, pretreatment with an anti-viral medication may be required. In order to minimize bruising from the procedure, medications that may cause more bruising or bleeding at injection sites, such as aspirin or ibuprofen may be stopped prior to the procedure.
